More than 600,000 square metres of factory floor with maximum space utlisation
In the course of the warehouse expansion for the new flagship of DB Fernverkehr AG, the ICE 4, we developed a compact warehouse solution in Berlin Rummelsberg with mobile racking and a very narrow-aisle truck – this enables the space-saving storage of spare parts for all ICE series.
Challenges
Limited building space within Berlin and the need for compact storage solutions
Creation of a storage solution with the maximum number of pallets in a small space
Enlargement of the maintenance fleet and the associated higher space requirements
Increase in spare parts availability for reliable order processing
Solutions
Modular, mobile Jungheinrich racking system with expansion potential for the future
Precisely tailored narrow-aisle solution with 7 traversing trolleys for optimum space utilization
EKX 412 very narrow aisle truck for efficient stacking and retrieval of pallets
Small-mesh gratings as a solid addition to the pallet racks
Successes
Optimal utilization of storage capacity with the maximum number of pallets
Enlargement of the spare parts range by reducing shelf aisles
Directly accessible storage locations for efficient workflows (individual access)
Savings in operating, energy and cleaning costs
